DESCRIPTION: For sale is a vintage mid 1950’s FRANCISCAN fruit / dessert / sauce bowl. This is in the Apple pattern that was first produced in California, U.S.A. in 1940 and continued to be produced in England after 1984. This is made of glazed ceramic earthenware. It features a high gloss ivory glaze with hand painted apple design. The apple design features embossed apples, leaves, branches and stems. The apple design is hand painted underglaze in burgundy red, green, and brown. The rim is trimmed with a brown branch. This item is stamped on the bottom of the dish with the circular “Franciscan, Made in California U.S.A., Hand Decorated, Gladding, McBean & Co. Oven-Safe” backstamp. This mark was used from 1953 to 1958. There is also an obscured manufacturing code. This bowl is approximately 5-1/4 inches in diameter across the top rim and 1-1/4 inches tall. The capacity is approximately 6-fluid ounces. CONDITION: This vintage piece is in excellent used condition. For being 70 years old, the condition of this piece is excellent. The glaze is bright and shiny. It is clean inside and outside. There are very little, very light visible use marks to the glaze. There is one very small, very minor scuff to the glaze on the bottom foot. This can be seen in the last photograph. The three sagger pin marks on the bottom of the bowl are visible. These are the result of the manufacturing process and are not flaws or chips. There is no post-factory damage, such as nicks, chips, cracks, crazing, hairlines, water spots, or repairs.
