The post-war years bore an indelible imprint of the deficit of everything and everything – it concerned the automotive industry. Most of the factories survived, but the volume of production of cars at first was small. The only order of cold-rolled steel sheet, for the production of automobile bodies, was the plant Zaporizhstal, which suffered considerably during the war. In order to somehow save metal, the GAZ and MZMA plants have established production of GAZ-M20 and Moskvich 400-420A cabriolets. However, even earlier at the Moscow factory of small cars, the cargo van “Moskvich 400-422” was mastered. At the plant MZMA on the basis of the already produced Moskvich prototypes of cars with wooden-metal bodies were made. One car with a 5-door station wagon – “Moskvich 400-421”, and the second with a 3-door car body – “Moskvich-400-422”. In 1948, only the modification of the Moskvich-400-422 car with a body of the type of a van with a luggage compartment of 0.85 m3 capacity and a carrying capacity of 200 kg was mastered, and also a universal one and remained an experimental model.
