For sale is a pair of Imposter Florsheim 93605 Imperial Shell Cordovan Black Dyed Shoes Men’s 7 D V Cleat Longwing Blucher Gunboat Dress Shoes. On rare occasions in vintage shoe collecting, you come across a pair that is not what they seem. It could be a factory mislabel, dye job, or the previous owner’s attempt at emulating a more desirable style. This pair is among four longwing styles I have listed, that are what I call “Imposter Florsheim.” Each pair has notable differences between what they appear and what they are marked. Whether you choose to wear this uniquity as is, or use them as a restoration vehicle, is up to you. To the patina artists who follow me – the dye job on these shoes may be the perfect opportunity to create a “reverse patina/burnish” by selectively stripping-off the dyed topcoat. Given the creative opportunities these shoes present, I have not worked condition/polished them. These shoes feature a glossy black-dyed (originally color 4) Shell Cordovan upper, classic Florsheim Imperial Kenmoor Longwing Blucher Gunboat dress shoe design, round waxed braided black laces, early Florsheim plush sheepskin tongue pad, leather lining, leather sockliner, leather insole, Florsheim’s famed 5-nail leather outsole, stacked leather heel (with flush V Cleat), and Storm Goodyear Welted Construction. For reference, here are the approximate measurements (taken along the outsole): Length – 11.625″ Width (at the ball of foot) – 4.125″ These shoes’ style code is 93605, and their date marker is not clear to make out. That said, the V Cleat is flush with the outside of the heel, meaning these were manufactured prior to 1973; the last suggests this too. These shoes have been worn sparingly and maintained exceptionally well. A testament to this, both the outsoles and heels are original, and in exceptional condition for their age and wear.
