Also available as a limited edition run on blue vinyl as well as standard black vinyl release. All record editions pressed on 180g vinyl and include a digital download card. DESCRIPTION: The following comes from the label: Fourth album and and first for Get Hip Recordings by brilliant New Orleans Psychedelic Garage band! Emerging from the swampy depths of the Louisiana bayou, this New Orleans group plays delta psychedelic music influenced by Dr. John the Night Tripper to Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd, and the 13th Floor Elevators, delivering odes to time machines, looking glasses, vampires, on both space rockers and more orchestrated pop-psychedelia. Formed in 2002, the band self-released their first three full-length albums before recording their first effort for Get Hip, the seven inch single Supernatural Beauty. Anchored by drummer King Louie Bankston (Exploding Hearts/Persuaders/Royal Pendeltons), the band has focused its efforts on new and exciting territory with their latest album, Twin Language. Carrying the lo-fi esthetic of pioneers Guided By Voices, the band has abandoned the 7-minute psych jam for song fragments and brevity, not unlike something you would mistake for The Who Sell Out; and the ethereal spirit of Syd still floats within and without their music. Recorded in a comic book shop/arcade after hours, you can almost smell the cigarettes and hear the whiskey breath on the microphones, the infighting and bickering. Twin Language is arguably a watershed moment for a veteran psych combo that may have already tired of their reverb effects a long time ago. I’ve been following this band since their debut album and this is their most solid effort to date (less emphasis on Syd with a style more of their own). Highly recommended as a starting point for those unfamiliar with this band’s music, then pick up their debut album Transparent Make-Believe followed by their sophomore album E(i)ther Or (which was issued as a CD-R). For your further reading enjoyment and enlightenment I offer this additional perspective on Twin Language as written by Mike Toland from The Big Take-Over website: Physically, Bipolaroid comes from Louisiana. Spiritually, however, the band comes straight out of the psychedelic 60s, especially the British variety, on its latest album, Twin Language. Balancing an aesthetic evoking a haze of marijuana smoke with a solid backbone of melodic pop, Bipolaroid manages to keep its feet on the ground, but its head firmly in the clouds. Check out Efflorescent Adolescent, which puts Syd Barrett through a filter of Guided By Voices, or Love You Not, which comes across as a combination of I Can See For Miles and Arnold Layne. Occasionally the drugs take control, as when Ben Glover gets a little too loose in his woozy singing, or the imminent collapse of instrumentation moves from hint to threat. But when this band is on, as with The Brass Tacks, Get Off My Fence, and Dumbstruck Epiphany, it’s as right on as an acid trip to the UFO Club in 1967.
