Sharp & Classic “ACE HIGH” GASOLINE MOTOR OIL Porcelain or Enamel over Steel Thermometer Sign (Thermometer non functional)MIDWEST OIL COMPANY WIL-FLO MOTOR OIL & More, loaded with lettersGreat Graphics in Red, White & Blue! Approx: 38 7/8″ H x 7.75″ W, 3.75 lbs Just Reduced!!! Things to note about this sign. There appear to be two versions of this sign of different ages. The ones that are the rarest have a low temperature of -50 on thermometer, the ones with -60 below appear less rare and usually sell for much less. They are all Collector Gems with a great look! The last 2 (presumably) older (-50) signs (and perhaps the only one’s in 25 years on eBay) sold for $3,251 in 2019 and $2,716 on eBay in 2016. The one in 2019 was a grade better than ours, but the 2016 sale was about the same condition as ours. We are pricing far below those and more in line with recent sales of the (-60 degree) models. To be clear, we are not sure of the age of the sign, we only know what is stated about them from other sales. The higher priced ones are noted as 1920-1930’s, but none of the $300-$500 ones list a date, they just say vintage or nothing at all. If they are later productions they are made of the same quality materials, but we just do not know. The thermometer in our sign has lost mercury and is not functional, but the glass tube is present. The wood holder can be unscrewed to replace thermometer if you choose, but we left item just as we found it, minus some dust. Thermometers can be found for a few dollars elsewhere online or other, but we wanted to note it. The rest of the sign is solid but has wear as shown in pictures. We photographed in various light settings and from all sides so buyers could get a good look. Please consider all pictures taken for your consideration and use zoom feature if needed. This sign in bright, red, white & deep blue is a great addition to any Oil & Gas memorabilia collection. It’s loaded with writing from the “ACE HIGH” “GASOLINE” “MOTOR OIL” at top with PURE 100% PENNSYLVANIA OIL (Permit No 215)”, then “THE ACE OF HIGH QUALITY” just below and then “THE PROOF IS IN THE USE” as you move to the bottom where it says “WIL-FLO” “MOTOR OIL” “SCORCHING HOT” “THAW OR FREEZE DRIVE WITH EASE”, then “GUARANTEED PRODUCTS BY” MIDWEST” MIDWEST OIL COMPANY”. Yikes, that is a lot of wording. The “O” in FLO is gone from a dent and flaked off, but the rest is legible. The “ACE HIGH” brand under the Midwest Oil Company is a highly sought after label among collectors as you may know. A number of other signs, oil cans and other with that logo and other graphics have sold well into the thousands and one oval hanging sign with an airplane for $23,000 on eBay in 2016, one with a race car and plane for almost $5,000 & many others from $2,000 and up, including 5 quart one oil can in 2020. Of course, most items are not as high as they are not as rare, but that gives you an idea of what the rarer “Ace High” items can go for. The Midwest Oil Company has a rich history and played a major role in the gas and oil industry in the US. It was based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and operated in a number of other areas, but a lot of detailed information seems to be lacking for some reason. Collectors may know better. As noted, we are not sure of sign’s exact age, it has all the same quality features as the higher priced (and presumably older) signs, but if we cannot even offer an educated guess as online sources are that lacking. We encourage all shoppers do there own research and only purchase an item after such.
